Happy International Women's Day!

Luckily, I do have a computer, even though I had to use it for AP American History exam studying all day and now have to do a late Blog Against Sexism.

But oh well, I'm here now and that's all that matters.

I think I'll take my short little humble e-soapbox time to address those who don't believe sexism still exists on Blog Against Sexism Day, and on International Women's Day, and especially in Women's History Month. It seems as though your numbers are growing and that bothers me above all else.

Women still make less on the dollar than men.

I think that is awful. How long have women been in the workforce? Does it really take this long to gain equality in the workforce? No wonder we have the mommy wars going on. Maybe some women are tired of making less on the dollar! Well, that's probably a little far-fetched, but still. :)

We have men making awful comments about what the "perfect rape victim" would be, and we have people pitting woman against woman in a mud-wrestling match for who gets the right to bodily autonomy.

This year has marked a near-record number of anti-choice legislation (Not pro-life, this is specifically anti-choice). Women's access to contraception is still being held up by political hassles four years later (but don't worry ladies, that faulty boob job that your man wants you to get him for his birthday? They're FDA approved. Ready and waiting to give you health problems out the whazoo). Not to mention, if a man wanted to GET a woman pregnant, he can be sure that his Viagra is covered by federal funding.

To top it all off, we have rape victims being forced to carry pregnancies in South Dakota now, and 11 more states following in their theocratic, patriarchical footsteps. They just can't wait to make women baby-machines this year.

If this is not sexism, if this is a country that has reached gender equality, I'm wondering what the hell women have come from in the past.

This is not gender equality. This is not an age where feminism is no longer needed. This is Blog About Sexism Day and it has a purpose. It's purpose has not been met. If you tell me that there is no more sexism, I will most certainly tell you that you haven't been paying attention.

I think I'll have to swipe the popular story to rant about today. It's just that disgusting.

So, a legislator in South Dakota gets off on his depiction of the perfect abortion recipient on national television. This display furthers the godbag theocracy notion that is currently plopping women back in the kitchen and slapping their uteruses full of white baby goodness.

The quote from the man?

A real-life description [of an exception scenario] to me would be a rape victim, brutally raped, savaged. The girl was a virgin. She was religious. She planned on saving her virginity until she was married. She was brutalized and raped, sodomized as bad as you can possibly make it, and is impregnated. I mean, that girl could be so messed up, physically and psychologically, that carrying that child could very well threaten her life.

What the fuck is that? So, only Christians can partake in the SIN that is abortion, and you have to have first already given up one of your womanly parts to some man, be it now or in the future. What the Hell? Only "undirtified" virgins get to have their body? I wonder if the woman whose rapist was acquitted even though she had a videotape of her gang rape is virginal enough and if she orally pleasures patriarchy's megalomania-crazed god-loving manhood enough to qualify for a body-rights pass.

Oh My GOD. (The horrible horrible post)

A 17-year-old girl went to police at the urging of her friends after she was allegedly gang-raped by three men, including her boyfriend. The men testified that the act was consensual. After reviewing all the information and statements, prosecutors decided they didn’t think they could prove a rape allegation, and so declined to prosecute the case.

This is terrible. This is just absolutely horrific.

This is pretty bad, too, but that up there definitely takes the cake.

In addition, this picture is only so awful because it's true.

I do believe the title says it all. These are comments from the womb om legs gallery, folks. This is what it's REALLY like when you have a working uterus and no freedom to decide what happens to it, and ultimately, to you. Therefore, this is what it's like to be a woman, especially a woman who is seriously considering or has already decided to have no children or never to go through a pregnancy.

Even myself, a sixteen year old girl who isn't even sexually active, I still feel this anxiety (probably not as much, but I still feel it). I still wonder how I'm going to manage EVER feeling comfortable about my sexuality when at any moment I may be relegated to a WOL (Womb on Legs, for those of you who are not pro-life and wouldn't know). It's ridiculous that people seriously think that I should "remain abstinent" for my entire life (or, well, until menopause, and even then if it's a false alarm I should have to give birth at 55) if I at all feel like I wouldn't want to forfeit my body for the use of a fetus.

It's stories like this that make me irrate. People who call themselves "Pro-life" have no business forcing these types of risks onto women. They have no right to decide for women what kind of experience they should have when they fall pregnant. They are not the ultimate decider of right and wrong, and I have always been appalled when they try to act the part. They have no right to orphan a child by making a woman, the child's mother, take on health risks which ultimately result in her death.

The potential of a fetus is NEVER a reason to justify the death of a woman, by illegal abortion, forced gestation, etc.

It seems like no one values the opinion of the women who go through it, but then again, I couldn't imagine that people who use the legal system to butt into the bedrooms and private parts of women everywhere would really care about the blabbering of the whole class of people they're ordering around.

In any case, I thought these were very good specimens of real experience, of truth, and of the feelings of the people anti- laws affect. Take from them what you will, but the least you could do is LISTEN for once.

South Dakota Legislature to Consider Abortion Ban

In the next six weeks, South Dakota lawmakers will decide whether to make abortion a crime.

A bill that would ban abortion in the state will be introduced within the next two days.

The bill will be called the Woman's Health and Life Protection Act. It will ban abortion, but won't prosecute a doctor who performs one to save a woman's life.

And the lawmaker who's introducing the bill says he thinks now is the right time to try and over-turn Roe vs Wade.

Rep. Roger Hunt says, "Abortion should be banned."

Those four words will likely lead to many others in the South Dakota House and Senate as lawmakers will decide whether to criminalize abortion in the state. The bill's supporters are using findings from a controversial abortion task force report recently given to the legislature.

Hunt says, "DNA testing now can establish the unborn child has a separate and distinct personality from the mother. We know a lot more about post-abortion harm to the mother."

The legislature debated a similar bill two years ago, but Governor Mike Rounds vetoed it because of concerns over some technicalities.

Hunt says, "We have made those corrections to the bill."

Sunday, Hunt and other anti-abortion advocates held an event promoting their legislation. They say now is the time to pass it, because other states are considering similar bills and because with new Chief Justice John Roberts, and possibly Samuel Alito, the US Supreme Court is changing.

Hunt says, "Two very solid, we feel, pro-life candidates. Again you never know but based on their testimony to the senate we feel they're good candidates."

Hunt says he thinks enough other lawmakers support the bill for it to pass, but he still thinks the decision will be a close one.

He says, "I learned a long time ago the only time you really count the votes is when you're taking the votes."

Hunt will also introduce two other bills this week. One is meant to ensure doctors explain the risks of an abortion to a woman is writing. The other deals with sex education and says school districts need to include principles in their curriculums dealing with abstinence and personal responsibilities.

Urgh when I saw Alito on the television this morning, urgh when I couldn't answer my Trig homework, urgh during my T.A period, and urgh when I was tired and didn't want to go to class.

This entry is going to be about the T.A. period.

If you don't know what a T.A. period, it's the class that I have where I am the bitch of one of the teachers. In this case, I am Ms. McMullen's bitch, along with two other girls. So, because I am Ms. McMullen's bitch, my friend and I were making copies for her. When we get back, her intern (who is not exactly 21 in the last years of college age, he's pretty old) is sitting watching TV.

Now, I thought he was a pretty cool guy until now, but today he just got creepy.

I thought he was watching the Discovery Channel, because on the TV is a 3-D fetus. Then as my friend and I walk further into the classroom, he proceeds to announce that the fetus (or, baybee as he called it) was his.

I replied with the general "Oh neato", and thought it would be the end of it.

OF course not. Never the end.

He goes on about the video and what they baybee's gonna do next.

*Interjection- Today I was wearing my very political in your face STFU asshole shirt reading "This is what a radically liberal pro-choice Pastafarian feminist looks like", just to let you know.*

So, once he gets done watching and narrating the movie of his fetus once, he rewinds it and plays it again! During this viewing, he proceeds to make comments about "abortion activists". My eyes bugged out of my head as he talked about how "OMG abortion activists let people 'bort these!"

The words pro-choice are plastered on my SHIRT, asshole. Buy a clue.

In any case, he goes on and on about what they can do, and whenever he forgets a little detail, I fill it in for him as a way of giving him a hint that I'm not some doofy girl who doesn't know shit about her body or fetal development and I'm not going to be duped by his assertion that of course fetuses are human people.

I got close to biting my tongue off when he said "Now tell me that isn't a human person. . ."

So, he was watching his fetus during his lunch break when he knew we would be in the room, he pushed his politics on his students. . .But don't think he's done! No no. He's just getting started in the ways he will proceed to break the borders of appropriate teacher-student relationships and ways to piss me off.

Not only is his twelve week fetus a baybee that borshun activists are trying to hunt down and poke with sporks until it keels over (as if the sporks are needed. Fetus - woman = death for fetus), but said fetus is worth hundreds if not thousands of dollars.

Mr. Intern-man leaped into the furthest areas of hypocrisy, and it was all I could do to not strike up a debate and pwn his self-righteous, inappropriate-behaving, hypocritical ass into the ground.

His baybee was a petri dish conception. What a selfish mutherfucker.

So, because he couldn't get his wife (who's probably five years old, blonde, and perky considering he told us he has "older sons") knocked up, he had to buy her a way to continue their DNA. So, even though he thinks unwanted children should be forced upon women, he can't bear to take any of them out of foster care because it wouldn't be his spawn.

What a prick. What a hypocrite.

I hope that when I tell Ms. McMullen about how out of line he was that he gets fired.

Bad thoughts, I know, but God-damn. He wishes equal if not worse shit on me and doesn't even realize it in all his bullshit.

Why you support rape if you are Pro-life and other stories (maybe)

The most basic answer would be "Duh. You think it's okay to use a woman's body without permission". That being said, I don't understand why pro-lifers get all offended when a pro-choicer will tell them that they must support rape.

It's only logical. If you can support forcing a woman to give birth and forfeit her bodily resources against her will for a fetus, who has never been proven to be a human person, why is it that it wouldn't be okay for a man to use a woman as his penis sleeve whenever he wants to?

When a man rapes a woman, he is using her body without her permission, in this case, for sex, control, and a very very appalling habit. When a woman is forced to maintain a pregnancy, the fetus is using her body without her permission to sustain it's life.

Now, people would say that it's the woman's fault for "getting herself pregnant" and therefore she "needs to face the consequences" of her actions and remain pregnant. Now, if a woman's right to bodily autonomy can be taken away from her because she "needs to face the consequences of her actions", I don't see why the same can't be said about certain rape situations, or even ALL rape situations.

Example:

Woman A has sex with her boyfriend. They use a condom. It breaks, she gets pregnant.

Most pro-lifers would say woman A needs to face the consequences of her actions (choosing to have sex, even with protection) and forfeit her right to bodily autonomy.

Example 2:

Woman B goes to a party with a young man she met earlier in the day. She has a few drinks and goes upstairs with said young man. He tells her he wants to have sex with her, but she says no.

Now, this is where I'm confused. The woman CHOSE to go upstairs with said young man from earlier. Why would she go upstairs with him if she didn't want ot have sex? Shouldn't she "face the consequences of her actions" (I mean, she knew that if she went upstairs with the guy, there was a chance she might choose to have sex with him, or he might force himself on her) of choosing to go upstairs with him and sleep with him or be raped? I mean, supposedly, the right to bodily autonomy can be taken away from a woman for making the "wrong" decision, correct?

Therefore, when a pro-lifer tells me that a woman's body is up for grabs as soon as she chooses to have sex (or otherwise), I can't help but remember the girl who chose to go upstairs with a boy and who got raped because of it. I think about how they must think she deserved it, because her body was up for grabs because of her decisions.

And then I think of murderers, arsonists, and rapists who are in federal prisons (And death row, I imagine) free from ever giving up their kidneys, livers, etc., even for the well-being of someone else.

It makes my blood boil. It really does.

Also, Say Woman B from the above example DOES get raped. What if while the man was having his way with her, she grabbed a heavy lamp, hit him in the head, and he died? Wouldn't that be sort of like an abortion?

I mean, if you think about it, the man is sort of like the fetus in a way. Just because the woman went upstairs (kind of like choosing to have sex) does not mean he can have his way with her and use her body without her permission (kind of like not having any obligation to continue a pregnancy). Therefore, the woman hits the man who is raping her in the head with a lamp. If it kills him, it kills him. Said woman just wants to get away.

Now, I'm wondering how many pro-lifers want accidentally killing your rapist to be illegal. Or, efven better, I want the pro-lifers who tell women it's "their fault" that they got pregnant to also tell them that if they're married, that gives their spouse free run of their body. I think pro-lifers who spout the "You chose, you chose" mantra should fight for spousal rape to be legal again. I mean, the woman chose to marry the man. That means that, because of her choices, her body is up for grabs, right?

Yeah. This is the kind of thing a migraine and a bunch of Trig homework sparks.

But whatever. Think about it, bitches, before one of you lifers EVER tells me you own my uterus because "I made my choice when I chose to have teh evil se><0rz".

Tim Harris, R-Marion, who has bachelor's degrees in political science and music performance. . ." Hell yes a bachelor's in pol. science and music performance makes you an OB-GYN. PLEEZ make my decisions for me Mr. Man) into an ill-informed law designed to target women who are ignorant of anything regarding fetal development and their own bodies and who are possibly scared to death and willing to listen to anything that a professional will tell them?

Not only that, but we have to make stupid laws about how abortion clinics can be, you know, because we have to protect the womenz and having a too small hallway or a room that's a foot too wide will certainly equal imminent death.

My question is: Did they measure the width of the alleyway women used to die of sepsis in?

So, we have to "protect the womenz", and, in the process, take away money from clinics and put ridiculous regulations on them so that they have to renovate, move, or close up. That kind of. . .oh, I don't know. . .MAKES NO SENSE.

In reading The Story of Jane. . .

So, I've been reading The Story of Jane by Laura Kaplan, and I am appalled.

Being as young as I am, I can never imagine the oppression of women being as bad as it was before the women's liberation movement swept through. I can never imagine being denied birth control a few days before I was to be married because of stupid laws. I never WANT to imagine becoming pregnant because a doctor told me I had to "wait until after the honeymoon" in order to obtain contraception.

The Story of Jane has made a valid point as well. Women are depicted as being pretty and sexy and appealing to men, and that has been a main point in most advertising and media. The idea permeates society so much it's hard to really point it out sometimes, however, it is certainly there. However, once a woman acts on said appeal, she is to be punished by society by being forced to become a baby-maker. So, she does what she's been told to do, but is then called a slut and a whore and is punished by being forced to relinquish her right to her own body.

Women are constantly being pulled back and forth between nuns and whores, prude and easy, The Madonna or the Jezebel.

If you're the Madonna, you're a failure. If you're the Jezebel, you're also a failure, and you must be punished.

The majority of this issue is fueled by a woman's reproductive system. If women were not the ones who got pregnant, they would not be the ones to be stretched between two ridiculous extremes. But as long as a woman is forced to think in the back of her mind, "This could be when I forfeit my body", women will never be sexually liberated, and possibly never fully liberated at all.

It's a sad sad day when a man can shoot his wad with no consequence, but a woman is forced to take the "responsibility" that others impose on her, using their political power, their sexist double standards, and the woman's own anatomy as the shackles and the cattle prod.

Haha. "Free" country my ass.
