"D.C. Madam" Killed Herself

Deborah Jeane Palfrey, the so-called D.C. Madam of a high class prostitution ring that has served government officials, hanged herself yesterday. The article mentions that Brandy Britton, one of the sex workers involved, also killed herself before going on trial. Maybe she didn't want to go through the extra humiliation of being asked invasive and irrelevant personal questions, like how do they serve Washington lawmakers while they were menstruating. Put that on top of the fact that Sen. Vitter still gets to keep his job and never had to go on trial, and now even I kind of feel a bit dead inside.

Disgusting. Perhaps someday our public officials will share some fraction of the responsibility for their actions, instead of foisting it all of on others.

I just don't understand how this can even be legal. I wonder what kind of deals they made to not only not be charged with a crime, but not to even testify. Usually, a lesser charge is exchanged for testimony, but none of the clients were exposed on the stands like current and former sex workers were. Somebody needs to write a book.
